My first post

I’m Hilly Janes, an AL at LCC, where I’ve been teaching in the Media School for seven years. I’ve been a journalist for 30 years, working as a features editor and writer on national newspapers and magazines like the Guardian, Times and Prospect. I also work, mostly pro bono, for the UK’s biggest journalism network, Women in Journalism, which runs professional development and networking sessions, does research into industry practices and campaigns to improve media diversity. The latter is currently a major issue in the industry and I’m interested in exploring this during the course. I also enjoy thinking about what I am doing in a different way, it always seems to improve things, sometimes surprisingly. The last course I did was on screenwriting – I ended up writing a book!
